One of the most beautiful Czech castles famous as the last residence of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir of the Austro-Hungarian throne, whose assassination in Sarajevo triggered World War I.

Originally castle dates from 13th century, built as a fortress in gotic stlye.
As an economic and a cultural center of the region, it was rebuilt over the centuries in various styles and eventually it was decorated as a residence of the future emperor.

The Austrian heir to the throne gathered a large collection of hunting trophies, medieval weapons, antique furniture, paintings, tapestries and other art objects during his life in the castle.

Together with beautiful gardens, this collection is today the main attraction of the castle.
